Kevin is a Research Zoologist and Curator in the Division of Amphibians and Reptiles at the National Museum of Natural History of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC. He works on the phylogeny and evolution of iguanid lizards (and assorted other vertebrates), as well as conceptual issues in systematics, including the concept of species, phylogenetic nomenclature (naming), and the logic of phylogenetic inference. His hobbies include naturalizing (especially herping), photographing wildlife, swimming, running, and mountain biking.
Kevin has known several of the founders of the Bodega Workshop (Shaffer, Wainwright, Sanderson) for a long time and was invited to participate in the 2008 version after presenting a seminar on species concepts at UC Davis in 2007 (hosted by workshop instructors Bob Thomson and Brad Shaffer). Instructor Rich Glor, with whom Kevin has collaborated on several lizard studies, also contributed to recruiting Kevin as a Workshop instructor.
